- Heading out
-
It was a cold winter night in Iceland, a crazy dark shitty winter storm (as always).
Went to my brothers for dinner, then the airport.
I can swear i almost died on my way from the parking lot, the weather was so bad.
My luggage almost blew away, and it was like i was the only person on the damned island.
Huge parking lot, all cars abandoned and partially covered with blowing snow.
All was frozen and dark, the wind was crazy.
I had to run and the luggage almost blew away in the storm.
Had been funny if the luggage would have blown and id have to go after it into the lava fields
where i would have frozen to death trying to wade the snow for my suitcase.
Kinda short trip, died in the parking lot.
New York city was fun, except for the first few days when i didnt know anyone, but after i met Daphne and
Ben and Karen it got a lot more fun.
There are very many things to see in New York and crime was less than i expected.
I only witnessed one breaking and entering.
I saw a store there, it was selling M&Ms, huge piles of em for only $2 each, i was like wowww!
So i got one.
Walking on the pavement of Manhattan i was peacefully opening my M&M when i stepped on something and
almost tripped, i just managed not to fall but my two pounds of Emminem went all over the place, spread out like
a carpet bomb.
Then i heard clapping, turned out i was right by five Manhattan janitors on a coffee break,
I stood there like an idiot "uh... sorry about that" with the emminemm all over the place.
They didnt look very pleased.
"Well get to work boys" was the last thing i heard before getting the hell outta there.
Washington was surprisingly black.
I got out of the chinabus(ny-dc) and figured out how to get to the hostel, the way was a bus.
Went into the bus... i was the only white guy there.
Hmm.... unCOMFortable!
Then just more and more noticeably black people came in, and it got jammed.. with blacks.
And then when the five black guys behind me started talking about the fight they were having yesterday then
i was just "thats it, im walkin!". So i got out, and off course walked the excact same way as the bus.
Turned out the bus was so slow i passed it every stop for five stops or so.
My rejection of those on the bus was a bit apparent.
"Theres the white guy... walking in the wind and the rain".. oh well.
At the Hilltop Hostel, Washington dc, i met a group of Minnesotians.

We played tabletennis in the hostels backyard.
The weather was always around 18c, no wind and sunny.
The yard had an old, worn out charm.

After DC I went to Charlotte, got totally wasted downtown and met people and had a great time.
Hung out with some new friends for some days, almost went to the countryside but no.
After watching the Scary Movie trilogy i have a new favorite joke, it is:
Woman is getting advice from a priest about how to raise her kid..
mom: "my boy is so defensive, he wont even let me touch him!"
priest: "sometimes you have to give them candy"
After taking advice from many experienced people about what my next destination should be i decided
it should be Boulder, Colorado.
Boulder is a beauty. Its tiny, only the same size as the largest and only city in the whole of Iceland.
Hmm..
A resident told me how few people there were in this state, only 5 million!
I was really, thats only twenty times the population of my country.
Anyways, here i will stay for a week or so, go ski, go climb the mountains with some mountain climbing group, i hope.
And go out and meet people from wherever.
Woke up this morning and there was a spider in my bed.
It is remarkable how much fear there can be of something so little.
Doesnt make any sense.
- Up and down up and down..
-
Went skiing today in Colorado (cant remember then name of the ski resort).
It was okey, when i got there i went into the elevator and started going up.
It took like 15 minutes, while at it i was thinking "im so going up right now"...
When i finally got up then, i started going down.
While at it i was like "going down dududu".
Then when i got down, i went up again, then down again.
Then i went up again... then down again.
Then i was like "should i go up again?"
But then i started thinking that this up and down cycle was getting a bit pointless.
So i figured three ups and downs was plenty enough for me.
But when i returned the skiis the woman there was like "done already?"
I was like "uhhh, yeah".
she: how many times did you go?
i: three.
she: shouldnt you go more?
me: how many ups and downs do normal people do?
she: much of them go at it an entire day.
i: they go up and down for an entire day? What are they nuts?
I and her did not to have a mutual understanding of the value of repeatedly going up and down a hill for a day.
- No druggies?
-
I bought a computer game.
Im trying to relive the excitement i had over new strategy games when i was a kid.
I try that once every two years or so.
As a kid i got high like a crack head playing those games (not that i really have no idea what crack high feels like.. but you get the point).
I installed it but some 20 seconds after i started playing i felt... its not for me anymore. (sobbing)
Theres something wrong with my druggie connections! I want to be an addict, this isnt fair!
Computer game addiction is one that can be very strong and one thats very easy to satisfy.
Doesnt get much better than that, but its gone.
Guess ill just have to do something constructive. );
- Some things are hard to explain

We were opening up the christmas presents...
My dad handed me two packs, one big and one small. Here are your shoes he said....
Mom added that there was a bit extra.
So i opened up the big one, shoes and a cd.
Then i opened the small one and it was... material girl, the dvd.
wtf!
Then i remembered, wasnt that the dvd im giving Alexandra for christmas?
It sure was, and i had torn it open.
I was just sittin there.. ehe, i had opened up the package i myself was giving Alexandra.
Lookin kinda stupid here!
Thing was, mom took care of the wrappings so i didnt know my presents from the rest.
hmm.....
"Heres your, uhh, present from me, uhh, which i just tore up myself for some reason."
- Oaxaca
-
Been in Oaxaca for three days now.
The moon schrinks from top down here, not from right to left as in Iceland.
I must be standing differently on the planet now.
Am going to spanish school 6 hours a day. Its fun being talking spanish all the time,
especially knowing im getting better every day.
The weather here is always great and the prices are low. The city is at 1500 meters.
The beach is a 5 hour drive from here, its much warmer there and its said to be a great beach.
Im hoping i will go there with this group of mexicans this coming weekend, that would be so cool!
I've never learned how to surf and ive never dived in coral ribs. But im sure its a lot of fun.
Its mid winter here but its so nice. Nighttime temperatures have once gone as low as a warm summers day in Iceland.
Poor Alejandra needed to put on a sweater going out last night, the people here are not used to this hardship.
It gets this cold because were up in the mountains.. by the beach its a lot warmer.
There are also many pyramids here, they are a must see.
State of Oaxaca
- Went surfing... surfing is dangerous
-
Went surfing today, am in Zipolite, a beach resort south of Oaxaca city.
I and a 52 year old Alaskan sailor who happened to be going the same way took a van to the beach.
The ride here was really bad, through the highlands, constant 180 degree turns by the mountain side.
Had to stop once to let the indian chic throw up, i really understood where she was coming from.
Sure the landscape was a beauty, and its a very exotic place full of indians and tranquility.
But you dont enjoy anything while with nausea.
Its a 7 hour ride here but its 10C warmer and much more humid.
When i got out of the car i kinda just wanted to get right back in and back to Oaxaca.. until i saw the ocean.
Oh man, what a beauty.
Off course i immediately got into my swimsuit and ran to the beach and to the surfing place.
I was so sure i was gonna be soo cool man, but when i told them i had never surfed before they gave me..
not a surfing board but some tiny plastic shit.. that looks like its made for kids or something.
I was like "what the fuck is that!". Thats what youre gonna use today he said.
Couple of days on this, then a surfboard.
So i went on that thing... to surf.
It was a tranquil day with waves only up to twice my height.
Hmm... looked pretty damn big to me.
Kinda waves you dont really want to ride at all, you just wanna run for your life!
You just stand there in the ocean, looking at that mighty wave forming and there is absolutely NOTHING you can do about it.
You just wait for it to slaughter you.
Then i started working on it, it kinda worked after a while.
Then the big one came, i went a double headspin with no control whatsoever.
Luckily it was deep.
After that i got more careful, and reluctant to take on the big ones.
Chill hermie.
- Snickers is nature.
-
Im back in Oaxaca, Puerto Escondito was a sauna.. a sauna full of mosquitos.
Saunas are fine for like 15 minutes.
This one lasted three days.
I met a hippie named Sierra the other day.
We spoke a bit and then we decided to go walk around the city.
We came to this church, this really pretty very old church.
Turned out it was built in 1580.
Every centimeter in it was decorated with saints, angels and Jesus Christ.
Obviously, tonns of work had been put into it, many centuries ago.
And as we were standing outside this ancient church enjoying its beauty.. it came to me,
they should put a McDonalds here!
A really big one with a huge arch right infront of the church so that people
could barely see the church front anymore.
That would be so cool!
This place would look like, more civilized and stuff.
After this i proceeded to explain to her how Snickers is nature.
- I love Nazis.
-
When i got to Charlotte, North Carolina I had a very comfortable 3 hour
interrogation session with a nazi customs officer during which my cell phone
with all my photos and videos from the past 4 month journey were stolen.
- Kabrizzni flizzni... wtf!
-
Went from North Carolina to London, bought books and from there to Iceland.
Stayed in Iceland for a couple of weeks or so, it was nice to see the people
and visit the hot tubs again.
Then, i came here.. to Czech Republic.
A friend of mine from the university offered me a job here.
I've been for just over a day now, the apartment is good and the work seems good as well.
The language here is completely different from any language i know, even German.
They don't even have the same alphabet.
Now its just dive into the software making, figure everything out and never give up.
Czech Republic
- Did I meet them?
-
Not long a go I had a long dream, most of which i couldn't remember shortly
after i woke up, but the little that i could was that i was back at my
grandparents farm (they died in 1992) and there was this sorrow in
the air. One of the clear things i remembered was seeing my grandma, Jensina,
crying. Somebody had died and there was this sorrow about it.
Everything in the farm was foggy.
Then i woke up,
two hours later my dad came home with the news that Sveinn,
a lifelong friend of my grandparents had just passed away.
Makes me wonder...
